Stem Cell Injections Q & A

What are stem cell injections?

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), are naturally found in bone marrow. They have several powerful healing properties and have been used for years to help trigger the body’s self-healing mechanisms.

When stem cells are injected into the body, they can morph into the exact types of cells the body needs to heal and repair the damage. Stem cell injections can also offer anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and immune-supporting benefits.

In patients with chronic pain or injuries, stem cell therapy can promote the healing of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles, and joints. As a complement to other healing therapies, stem cell injections can address a wide range of musculoskeletal problems safely and effectively.

What is the process of getting a stem cell injection treatment?

Your stem cell treatment may take a few appointments. First, Dr. Saleemi extracts bone marrow, often from your pelvis. She places the marrow in a centrifuge machine, which spins at high speed to concentrate the marrow.

After this is complete, she injects the marrow back into the affected area or areas of your body. Once your body receives the stem cells, they go to work immediately to repair the damage.

The treatment is done right in the Interventional Pain Associates office as an outpatient procedure. You might have more than one treatment over the course of a few days, plus blood testing or exams throughout the process to make sure the treatment is working.

Most patients can go home and resume normal activities immediately after stem cell injections.

What are the benefits of stem cell injections?

If you suffer from chronic pain, an old injury, or just want to improve your body’s resilience and strength, stem cell injections might be right for you.

It’s a wonderful complement to other pain management modalities, and it may be helpful for patients who haven’t had success with medication and want to avoid surgery.

Some of the other benefits of stem cell injections include:

  • Wound healing
  • Decreased inflammation
  • Pain relief
  • Increased mobility
  • Improved immune health

As part of a comprehensive treatment plan, stem cell injections trigger the body’s healing response, which may decrease your need for medications.

Dr. Saleemi can help you determine if stem cell injections are right for you. If so, she can guide you through the process and customize a treatment plan that meets your specific needs.
